Moscow

The Kremlin at night

Why Moscow?

Moscow is a city of many contrasts. It is a place where ancient monasteries and ultra modern monuments stand side by side, where ‘New Russian’ millionaires and poverty-stricken pensioners share the same streets. On the approach to the Kremlin, along Novy Arbat (Moscow’s equivalent to London’s Oxford Street) high rise buildings loom large. However, beautiful neo-classical houses and impressive structures such as the Bolshoi Theatre are reminders of the older city. The Kremlin, at the very heart of the city, has been the seat of power for princes, tsars and more recently, presidents. The adjacent Red Square is the home of the famous St Basil’s Cathedral with its striking, multicoloured domes. This is a city for art-lovers, historians and shoppers.
