St. Petersburg

Why St. Petersburg?

Peter the Great built this magnificent city on a swamp at the beginning of the eighteenth century, using thousands of serfs and peasants. 300 years later, St Petersburg is known today as the Venice of the North. Situated on the River Neva near the Baltic Sea, St. Petersburg is a city surrounded by numerous canals, rivers and lavish architecture. Nevsky Prospekt, the city’s main thoroughfare, is one of the most beautiful streets in the world, because of its eclectic mix of different historical architecture. The city’s most famous treasure is the Hermitage, arguably the greatest art collection in the world. At its heart is one of the world’s most luxurious royal palaces, the ornate Winter Palace, which overlooks the magnificent Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul across the river Neva.
